Sarah loves horses and attends a therapeutic horse-riding program weekly. She has ridden horses since she was 5 years old. Sarah enjoys drawing and painting horses. Sarah has been inspired by art her entire life. Carolyn Utigard Thomas is a contemporary artist working primarily in watercolor. Her paintings are adventures of the spirit and landscapes of the mind.
Carolyn was born in Chicago, grew up in St. Paul and Indianapolis, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Cincinnati, with Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Science in Education degrees.
Her varied career has taken her from designing for Hallmark in Kansas City, to working for Astroworld in Houston, designing and painting everything from posters and murals to stage sets. Carolyn then had a commercial art business, creating logos, advertising illustrations, and wall graphics.
In 1978, she began painting full-time in watercolors. She has won many awards for her work, which is displayed in public and private collections throughout the world.
In most of her work, one is led into the paintings by soft colors overlaid by geometric veils. A dreamy feeling of fluctuating space is created. Whatever subject explored, from angels, human and plant forms to pure design, Carolyn attributes much of her inspiration to feelings obtained during meditation, which she has practiced for many years. Physical and spiritual worlds imaginatively merge in her art of mystery, fantasy and vision.

Handcrafted Jewelry - Viking Knit
I'm primarily a wireworker and my specialty is Viking Knit. I hand weave copper, sterling-filled, bronze and/or aged bronze wire around a dowel then draw the result through a draw plate. I demonstrate this technique at every show as customers are interested in how my jewelry is created/built. Once I have a "strand" of Viking Knit, I create necklaces and bracelets using copper, pewter or silver findings and finishings adding semi-precious stones such as turquoise, lapis, carnelian, etc., and unusual beads or findings.
I also create jewelry (earrings, bracelets, necklaces, and pendants) using semi-precious stones (amethyst, jaspers, onyx, turquoise, azurite, lapis lazuli, mother of pearl, and others), crystals, and other unique beads (carved ox bone, wood/polymer combined and others). I use sterling silver and stainless-steel ear wires for my earrings.

Carolyn Utigard Thomas is a contemporary artist working primarily in watercolor. Her paintings are adventures of the spirit and landscapes of the mind.
Carolyn was born in Chicago, grew up in St. Paul and Indianapolis, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Cincinnati, with Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Science in Education degrees.
Her varied career has taken her from designing for Hallmark in Kansas City, to working for Astroworld in Houston, designing and painting everything from posters and murals to stage sets. Carolyn then had a commercial art business, creating logos, advertising illustrations, and wall graphics.
In 1978, she began painting full-time in watercolors. She has won many awards for her work, which is displayed in public and private collections throughout the world.
In most of her work, one is led into the paintings by soft colors overlaid by geometric veils. A dreamy feeling of fluctuating space is created. Whatever subject explored, from angels, human and plant forms to pure design, Carolyn attributes much of her inspiration to feelings obtained during meditation, which she has practiced for many years. Physical and spiritual worlds imaginatively merge in her art of mystery, fantasy and vision.
